The Kiss, 2018

Archival inkjet print mounted on vertical blinds, engraved, polished aluminum plaque, 62x58in, 4x5in

Installation View, Workspace Residency, LMCC, NYC

The Kiss features an appropriated photograph mounted on vertical blinds of the socialist fraternal kiss between Erich Honecker and Leonid Brezhnev during the festivities of the 30th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic of East Germany in 1979.

It is accompanied by an office plaque engraved with text collaged together from cheap romance novels. Juxtaposed with the blinds the text undermines the ideological content purported by the image and endows it with a homoerotic sentiment.
